Epic Iceland 2015, Day 12 – Sunday, August 2nd

Day 12 pics here.

Bit froggy today–me not out side (looks like a decent amount of sun). Next up is hacking cough, but means I should be feeling better by tomorrow.

Today’s itinerary is Jokulsarlon and Vatnajokull Park, with a boat ride among the icebergs at Jokulsarlon.

***

Finally getting some rain. Temps still pretty good. I think I might break out the sweater tomorrow.

***

Picture stop for shots of glacier at Skeidarasandur. No more rain, mostly cloudy, but sun peeking out. Gorgeous.

***

The cruise around Jokulsarlon was pretty neat. Tasted a 1,000-year-old piece of ice. Got chatting with the Brits and wound up being the last ones back to the bus. First for me. 🙂

***

Stopped at beach across the way. Couple more photos. Picked up some more stones. Need to find a nice container.

***

Lunch was good. Chatted with driver, guide, and a couple other group members. Decent burger with fries and soda for 1,490 ISK, one of the better meal deals.

***

Now at Svinafellsjokull glacial outlet/tongue. Famous in several movies. Warm. Sunny. Stunning.

***

The hike at Vatnajokull National Park was worth it. Amazing falls off a black basalt formation. Mountains you dream of. But OMG so out of shape. I’m sure the head cold doesn’t help (comes and goes).

***

Quick stop to pick up lunch food for the next two days, then back to the hotel.

***

Got some trail mix, dried fruit, nutty things. Protein amounts look good, so I should be set.

And either my Claritin kicked in after an hour or I’m on the mend. Spent the ride back only able to breathe out of one nostril. That bugs me more than pretty much any other thing about a head cold.

***

Now dinner and maybe laundry. Have to get creative again with stopping up the sink, but… I really did over pack on the clothes. AT least I have variety and some options this go around. Still debating on wearing the sweater. If I don’t wear it here, I’ve got several months to wait back in Philly.

***

Dinner was good, sat with the Aussies, Brits, and the lady from Taiwan [yes, they have names, and I know them; no need to put them here, however].Talked about work, healthcare, 9/11, and general stuff. Did my laundry, one load–shirts and underwear. I don’t have enough heater space to do more. Now to type up the blog and hit the hay.
