Epic Iceland 2015, Day 19 – Sunday, August 9th

Day 19 pics here.

Mostly played catch up with the internets last night and looked into potential things to do during my next few days here. Did some more research this morning. Started out pretty heavy with restaurants (probably because I started around dinner time) but evened out toward the end.

My plan is to checkout from Hotel Cabin around 11 am, then haul my stuff to Hotel Skjaldbreid, where I’ll be until I fly out on Thursday. Then I’m going to take a wander to the flea market and maybe eat at the Icelandic Fish & Chip restaurant, which is in the general area. Or…who knows. O maybe I’ll hole up in a cozy cafe. I can’t just stay in my hotel room, but I also don’t have to go go go. These last few days are about R&R before getting back to the real world [I think I remember how to real world, maybe].

Or maybe I’ll take it as a sign to head out now (about 10 am) since the wifi seems to have died. Works for me.

Okay, the walk was exhausting. Not a horrible distance, but with luggage and backpack… I’m ready for another shower and maybe a nap. On the upside I got to check into my room. I’m rather in love with my room here at the Skjaldbreid. The view is of the building across the street, which is fine.

Now to recover a bit. Get settled in. Then I’ll explore with as few things with me as possible. Holy too much crap, Batman.

More sun than clouds, but windy, but good day to wander. Still haven’t found the flea market, but I did stumble over Vedi’s ice cream. Got a scoop each of chocolate and pride (rainbow). Tasty. And now I’m having lunch at Reykjavik Fish Restaurant, which seems to be tied to the Akureyri one. Let’s see if their mixed green salad is afuckingmazing. 🙂 got jalapeno-garlic sauce for the normal [not curly or sweet] fries.

Really liking the Old Harbor area. Definitely a work in progress, but closer to finish than start of transformation.

I’d say the salad was pretty good. Mostly the same. Lighter dressing, onions this time. Cramped bowl. Still recommend, but the one in Akureyri was better. The jalapeno-garlic dipping sauce is definitely the better choice.

Ah, the Icelandic Fish & Chips place I’d written down was a cross the street from the chain one.

***

Found the flea market. Nothing super exciting.

Poked my head into a couple shops on my way back to my room. Chilling for a bit, listening to someone [or a recording] playing an accordion on the street below. Feel like I’m in Paris not Reykjavik.

***

It’s pretty sunny now. I think I’ll pop out in a bit with maybe just my fleece and grab some souvenirs.

***

Dinner at Nudluhusid Thai Cuisine. Very tasty green chicken curry.

***

I think tomorrow will be a shopping day [read: couple hours] and anything else of interest I stumble over.
