Epic Iceland 2015, Day 23 – Thursday, August 13th | Last Day

Day 23 pics here.

Well, the 8:30 arrival at the airport wouldn’t have been so bad if there had been more than two security lanes open. I didn’t have to run, but I didn’t get much downtime either. Scarfed down a strawberry skyr, so at least I’ll be a bit less easy to aggravate.

Pet peeve: people who can’t queue properly. I’m not saying it has to be everyone in a perfectly straight line, but do stop creeping up on my sides. First the older woman in the security line, then pretty much everyone in line for the flight. It’s not rocket science.

***

The sky was pretty cool this morning. Rainy with pockets of clouds. [If you’ve seen my Tweets or hop over to the photos for today, you’ll see clouds were a running theme.]

***

I think my biggest issue with the short time here in the airport is that I have about four hours in Boston. We all know how much I LOVE Boston. Teleportation would be awesome. Or portkeys. I’m not picky.

***

Once again I’m watching over everyone’s shoulders on the plane. I realized a few things. I really have watched When Harry Sally enough times to be able to recite relevant dialog. Who needs sound? Second thing, person who was watching When Harry Met Sally is now watching Wonder Boys, which I don’t think I’ve seen since college. I also just twigged that you’ve got Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.), and Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) having misadventures together. Still haven’t seen Ant-Man and don’t know a whole lot about Hank. However, it strikes me as a dangerous combo somehow.

***

Maybe a half hour left in the flight. Then customs. Then waiting. Then flight. Then baggage claim. Then taxi. Then home. Getting closer.

***

Customs was…pretty painless. they have a huge number of automated kiosks to sort folks and everything else moves pretty fast. Picked up my luggage (Yay! It made it to the States!) and trekked to the right terminal, rechecked my bags. then security, which was pretty swift after Iceland this morning.

So, I celebrated with a burger and a beer at Boston Beer Works. Nothing like spending weeks in Iceland to make airport food and beverages seem like a steal.

Now I’m sitting at the gate with a pleasant buzz and trying to wrap my head around the clouds here. The just don’t look real. I noticed this before the beer, mind you.

***

Slight delay leaving Boston. Apparently Philly was backed up. No great surprise there. Not horrible. Had a good conversation with my seatmate about grammar and writing, because that’s what a marketing person and a research person discuss. And more knitting. I think I’m down to my last two and a half repeats on the scarf. Glad I have a second skein at home; I’m getting close to the end of this one.

***

So, I’ve always had this eensy worry that someone’s going to come in while I’m in the shower. Not sure If I was more surprised or the poor pet sitter guy was. A wrongly dated note made me think they’d already been today. Nope. All’s well.

***

Skye hasn’t let me out of her sight. So, I’m thinking she doesn’t hate me. Yet. 🙂

***

Got my baggage with little fuss, and the cab ride was uneventful. Until we pulled up alongside Kelliann’s bar on the corner…where some of my coworkers were having a drink. It was nice running into them.

Now I’m settling in. Unpacked. Laundry. Vacuumed up the Skye tumbleweeds. Changed the bed. Just wrapping up this last entry and uploading my photos, then I’m done.

It was an amazing experience and well worth everything. Time to start planning the next one.
